Yet he also was an in-demand musician, and this three-disc, four-hour set highlights just a smattering of his collaborations from his very fertile early years, while sprinkling in some choice selections from his own releases.
French-born jazz composer’s 1956 album, Bonjour Paris, was a stunning declaration of intent by a young composer who would go on to great heights. Sixty years later, it’s still a helluva record.
