RIP Phil Everly

Woke up this morning to the sad news about the passing of legendary musician Phil Everly. Given his age and his recent health battles, the news is not particularly surprising, but his passing is sad nonetheless. One consolation, though, is knowing that 2013 was the year that the musical world seemingly rediscovered the brothers, with numerous tributes being released, both by various artists and by individual. The best of these tributes, in my opinion, is the Bonnie “Prince” Billy/Dawn McCarthy What the Brothers Sang, which eschewed the duo’s biggest hits and focused on their more obscure work, though other albums were equally satisfying in their own way.

I can’t remember the first time I heard them, but it doesn’t really matter, the effect was the same–I fell for it, intrigued by the duo’s harmonies, especially this brief but haunting song:
