Chicago’s Urge Overkill has always had a way with a cover. After all, they’re probably best remembered as the band who covered “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” for Pulp Fiction. It’s been ten long years since last we heard from Nash Kato and King Roeser; their comeback album, Submarine, impressed. Now they’re slated to return in 2022 with new album Oui, and their first single is their take on George Michael’s “Freedom!” It’s a song they fell in love with when they heard it on the radio in Europe. When Michael died in 2016, they decided to cover it. Crunchy and energetic, their take gives the song a garage-rock feel, while the band delivers it with their beloved 70s glam and power pop panache.
