3AM Eternal: The Rods “Do Anything You Wanna Do” (1977)

Was this song cursed? Supposedly, the cover of this single, featuring Aleister Crowley in a rather silly hat, invoked the ire of one of the man’s most ardent and famous followers, who then put a curse on Eddie & The Hot Rods. The song title itself, “Do Anything You Wanna Do,” is based upon Crowley’s belief that “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.” Some would say that they were indeed cursed; they never quite reached the top like they did with this single. However, one must also they continued as a band until 1981, and then reformed years later, and have remained a band since then, so the idea of the band being cursed is somewhat nebulous. Its connection to the occult was tenuous at best; still, some felt there was one, the subject matter appearing in a rather hilarious¬†Uncut interview several months back.
Ace tune, though!
