3AM Eternal: The Wild Tchoupitoulas “Meet De Boys on De Battlefront” (1976)

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

As for The Wild Tchoupitoulas, this one-off group led by George Landry, their sole self-titled album is a lovely piece of New Orleans music, and would probably be seen as a curiosity of the Mardi Gras scene–were it not for the fact that this group, which incorporated members of The Meters, would turn out to be the first major project featuring The Neville Brothers, and would be the deciding factor for the group to form.

This live footage was shot by the wonderful Les Blank, and is a highlight of the excellent Mardi Gras film, Always For Pleasure.

BONUS: Here’s another performance from Blank’s documentary.
