At the time, I said this:
I’m amazed by the power of Surrounded’s debut album, Safety In Numbers. It’s dark yet hopeful, not unlike Mercury Rev or Sparklehorse, thanks in part to the gorgeous singing of vocalist Marten Rydell, whose singing is a candle in the darkness of the rest of the band’s heavy, melancholy accompaniment. If cards are played right, Surrounded could be a very big band, indeed.
