3AM Eternal: Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner “Jeannie’s Afraid of the Dark” (1968)

Not so much “gloomy” inasmuch as it is “the most utterly depressing song you’ll ever hear,” this classic duet between Porter Wagoner and his young protege, Dolly Parton, is one of the weepiest of the country weepies that you’ll ever find. If you aren’t moved by this song, then I honestly believe there’s something wrong with you.
