3AM Eternal: The Beach Boys “Keepin’ The Summer Alive” (1980)

July is the perfect month to celebrate the brilliance and the wonder of The Beach Boys, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do! This month’s theme is “Keepin’ The Summer Alive,” based on this underrated tune from their 1980 album of the same name. Though the later years are often neglected, there are sparks of greatness to be found, and this is one of ’em. The song was cowritten by Randy Bachman, which explains the Bachman-Turner Overdrive vibe that mixes well with the trademark Beach Boys style. Sadly, Keepin’ The Summer Alive would be the last album to feature drummer Dennis Wilson before his untimely death in 1983.

We’re going to not only focus on The Beach Boys, though. We’re also going to feature some of the many side projects, productions, and solo cuts from each of the members, as well as some rarities and outtakes that you may not be aware of, and some choice covers from other artists who have helped keep the Beach Boys’ name alive! So sit back, fix your favorite cool concoction, and enjoy some great American summertime music!
