3AM Eternal: Alice Cooper, “Welcome To My Nightmare” (1975)


Ah yes, it’s October once again, and once again our thoughts turn to the darker side as we work our way up to the exciting time of Hallowe’en! So why not take a month and ruminate in the darkness, with songs to conjure up dreary, dreadful, ominous feelings, sometimes po-faced serious, sometimes tongue placed firmly in cheek. Who better, then, to launch this month’s theme than the master himself, Alice Cooper?

I’ve elected to share with you his appearance on The Muppet Show. I said this earlier in the week, and I stand by it now: if you were a little kid in the 1970s and you caught this appearance, Alice Cooper scared the hell out of you. Now, of course, we recognize it as campy, theatrical fun, but when you didn’t know, fear ruled the day. Enjoy with longing, then, this wonderful performance,
