Greetings and salutations!

I’m hunkered up in my bedsit, heater running full blast and doing my best to keep warm on such a cold and blustery day, and it struck me that now was a great time to give you fine readers an update on things going on behind the scenes. I’ve felt a bit guilty about last week’s lack of regular updates, but please forgive me—I’ve been laid up with an unpleasant bout with the flu and an ear infection. Yuck!

We’ve had a great 2016 so far. We relaunched with a new website design, presented the debut Recoup piece by one of my favorite music critics and writers of all time, and have generally hit a groove that I really, really like. You like it, too; since these things, our readership has increased. If you think what we’ve done so far is great, just stick around—more great things are coming soon!

We wouldn’t do this if it wasn’t for you, and that’s why we need your help. We have every intentions of staying commercial-free, and as a result, we’ve set up a patronage account via the reputable platform Patreon. We’ve got several generous souls who help us each month. As a result, we’ve been able to do the following: commission writers (no one writes for free here—I won’t have it), pay for a premium website design, host podcasts via a premium service (we’ve had some technical issues over the last week that we’re getting worked out right now), and have been able to expand in ways we simply wouldn’t be able to do without your support. In the near future, I’ll post an essay here talking solely about how our patronage works, with testimonials from folks who have contributed.

I want to thank you all for your continued support and for your daily visits. We’ve got a number of great things that will be appearing here in the next few weeks, and we hope you’ll enjoy them.

Onward and upward!

Joseph Kyle
