I’ve always been somewhat ambivalent about the band Beach House; their music is lovely and pretty but not always compelling; sometimes, they’re just too dreamy for their own good. But they do have their moments, I’ll concede, and their recently released album, B-Sides And Rarities, is a record with subtle pleasures, thanks in part to the gorgeous singing of Victoria Legrand, and one such number is “Saturn Song.” Taken from a concept album from 2014 which found numerous bands incorporating recordings from Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, this song blends in the sound of Saturn with the band’s already lush, cold soundscapes. Surprisingly, it works, and is a highlight of this enjoyable compilation.
