Mtume was the disco/soul group fronted by producers James Mtume and Reggie Lucas, veteran musicians who worked with a host of legends, ranging from Roberta Flack to Miles Davis. For almost a decade, they released a handful of charting singles that ranged from disco movers to slow-jam groovers, and while they quietly came to an end, both Mtume and Lucas have had impressive production careers; Mtume working with R. Kelley and Lucas with Madonna. SoulMusic Records‘ latest release, Prime Time: The Epic Anthology, offers up the best of the best from the group’s singles and album releases, as well as a handful of choice rarities. “Body And Soul (Take Me)” was their final single, a sweet soul ballad that set the tone for the burgeoning New Jack Swing genre–a sound which both men would have a production role.
Prime Time: The Epic Records Anthology is available now via SoulMusic Records.
