Guitarist Marisa Anderson is an accomplished musician with a deft compositional hand, one that puts her squarely in the lineage of other such fine musicians as John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Jack Rose, and Glenn Jones. For her Thrill Jockey debut, Cloud Corner, she has turned out an album that is simultaneously warm and inviting, cold and off-putting, bright and sunny, and foggy and melancholy. While these contradictions might seem to be confusing or schizophrenic, such is really not the case; instead, Cloud Corner is an album truly defined by its mood. Beyond that, the music is simply gorgeous, with each finger picked note sounding positively inspired by something greater.
