Song Of The Day: Smoking Popes, “Amanda My Love”

Seven years since their last studio album, Chicago-based punk/emo group Smoking Popes not only return with a brand-new album, Into The Agony, they also do so with their original lineup from the 1990s, featuring drummer Mike Felumlee. Front man Josh Caterer‘s songwriting acumen and vocal prowess does not seem to have aged in the nearly 30 years since they began, and “Amanda My Love” sounds like it could’ve been recorded 25 years ago when first they wowed a world with their song, “Need You Around”. That’s not a knock on the group; it’s testimony as to just how strong and potent they always have been.
