Simon Bonney came of age with the Nick Cave/Einstürzende Neubauten/Mute Records posse, forming Crime & The City Solution in the fertile Australian scene of the late 1970s, before relocating to Berlin and making the band his full-time concern. They would split in 1991, and Bonney launched a brief solo career, releasing two solo albums. This year’s compilation Past, Present, Future contains tracks from those two albums, as well as material from an unreleased third album entitled Eyes Of Blue. This fantastic cover of Scott Walker‘s classic “Duchess” is from that lost record, and it’s not only a fine tribute to the dearly departed enigmatic vocalist, but it also highlights Bonney’s own vocal prowess.
