We’re honestly surprised that Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers frontman Greg Dulli didn’t go solo a long time ago. But at this point in his career, why not? He releases Random Desire in February, the first true Dulli solo album in his storied thirty year career. (Yes, we are quite aware of a 2005 album that bore his name, but Dulli doesn’t consider it a solo album, so neither should you.) And Dulli is taking the “solo” thing seriously, as he’s playing all the instruments here himself, crediting Prince as inspiration–and that can only be a good thing. The first taste of Random Desire, “Pantomima” is quite promising. I\It’s a soulful rocker that sounds as good as anything from Gentlemen and Black Love.
