Song Of The Day: His Name Is Alive, “Guitar Echo”

His Name Is Alive

He hinted at it in our interview last year, but His Name Is Alive frontman Warren Defever has just announced the release of his second archival collection, Return To Never (Home Recordings 1979-1986). The first taste from the collection is “Guitar Echo,” and it does just as it says. A guitar melody with plenty of echo. If it reminds you of his yet-to-be record label 4AD Records, then you’d be right. It’s Robin Guthrie-worthy. Harold Budd-worthy. Michael Brook-worthy.

Thankfully, it was also Ivo Watts-Russell worthy, and now we know why Defever sought them out–and why Watts-Russell was so impressed.

We’re eagerly awaiting this new collection and look forward to sharing more in the near future.
