It goes without saying that the death of Kobe Bryant yesterday meant the world lost a great athlete. (The world also lost a young, budding athlete in his daughter, 13 year old Gianna.) But many may not be aware that he won an Academy Award for his 217 short film Dear Basketball. It was a recitation of the letter he wrote declaring his retirement, read by Kobe himself and beautifully animated by Glen Keane.
Though we’re not a sports blog by any means, we enjoyed watching Bryant play the game, and this short film is beautiful and moving, even if you’re not a sports fan.
RIP Kobe Bryant. The world will miss your athleticism.
