In a season of stunning and surprising comebacks, Eddie Chacon‘s return stuns us the most. In the early 1990s, Chacon made up one half of the duo Charles & Eddie. They scored big with “Would I Lie To You?”, a stunning and gorgeous retro-soul number. Unfortunately, their follow-ups never lived up to that initial offering, and the duo would go on hiatus in 1995–only to be brought to an end when Charles Pettigrew passed away from cancer in 2001 at the young age of 37.
Eddie Chacon, however, seemingly disappeared. But last week he resurfaced with a brand new single, “My Mind Is Out Of My Mind,” and the announcement of a solo album, Pleasure, Joy and Happiness, due at the end of the month. The bio for the album promises low-key soul, and “My Mind Is Out Of My Mind” is most certainly that. Chacon sings with a soft, gentle tone, and it’s hard to believe that his first band included Metallica’s Cliff Burton!
We are legitimately excited about Chacon’s return, and when you hear his album, we think you will be, too.
