Song Of The Day: Julian Bream, Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte

Julian Bream

We were saddened to learn that legendary English classical guitar virtuoso Julian Bream passed away last Friday, aged 87. Though the Sixties may have been a culturally progressive era, Bream helped define classical guitar for the era. Furthermore, his style didn’t seem to be too out of place with the works of John Fahey and Wes Montgomery. He also found success as a performer on the BBC, NPR, PBS, and other like minded broadcasters around the world. His 1960 recording of Maurice Ravel‘s gorgeous Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte¬†feels quite fitting a tribute, and captures the gentleness of his musical style. RIP
