When we interviewed High Llamas visionary Sean O’Hagan, he mentioned to us that his friend and former collaborator Cathal Coughlan was working on his own solo album. Well, we’re happy to report that said album is now soon to see light of day. Coughlan’s new single, “Song Of Co-Aklan,” is the title track for an album set to come later this year. It’s a great little number; with a driving melody and featuring the help of friend Luke Haines (The Auteurs), the song is catchy and additive. But in true poetic form, the catchiness is tempered with somewhat abstract lyrics. Of course, the clever Coughlan is quite aware of this.“Raise your hands if you don’t know what this mean” the chorus asks. Consider our hands raised. But that’s cool, because we can’t wait to hear the rest of Song Of Co-Aklan.
