Song Of The Day: Assertion, “Supervised Suffering”

Been a while since we heard from former Sunny Day Real Estate/Fire Theft/Foo Fighter William Goldsmith. But he’s returned with a brand new band, the power trio Assertion. Trading quite heavily in the same sort of sonic territory that made his bones, first single “Supervised Suffering” quickly impresses. The quiet/loud/quiet formula may be old hat in 2021, but remember this: Goldsmith helped invent the style. Vocalist Justin Tamminga took inspiration from Sunny Day Real Estate, and he and Goldsmith bond quite nicely. Yet this isn’t retreading old glory; this is something absolutely new and compelling and exciting and, most importantly,  good. Debut album Intermission arrives April 9th via Spartan Records.
