Song Of The Day: Cole Quest & The City Pickers, “Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key”

Well, now, this is a pleasant surprise! Dobro player Cole Quest happens to be the grandson of American folk icon Woody Guthrie. He and his posse of roots music pickers have recorded a brand new EP of covers and originals, Self-(En)Titled. Fittingly, the first taste of the EP includes a rare Guthrie song. “Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key” saw new life when Billy Bragg and Wilco covered it for their Mermaid Avenue project. Guest vocalist Christian Apuzzo does the honors here, and he’s a hell of a singer–check his sustained note at the end of the song. Based on this song, we’re most assuredly excited to hear the rest of what Quest has to offer.
