It’s been three decades since former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft began making music. So in a possible nod to his past, he’s chosen to revisit his back catalogue for his latest solo album, Acoustic Hymns Vol 1. It’s a fine retrospective that covers both his band work and his solo career, but one song stands out. For his revisit to his 2000 solo hit single “C’mon People (We’re Making It Now),” he’s enlisted his good friend Liam Gallagher to sing with him. It’s fitting, as the song was written when the two were on vacation together in the Nineties, and Gallagher loved it. Liam’s in fine voice, as is Ashcroft; the breezy piano and upbeat singing makes this cover a delight. The song was a minor hit in 2000, and it still sounds like a hit twenty-one years later.
