Last week we learned that promising Montreal-based post-punk band Ought had called it a day. But in tandem with that announcement came news that frontman Tim Darcy and bassist Ben Stidworthy had formed a new group, Cola. Their first single, “Blank Canvas,” shows that one need not mourn Ought’s demise too long. With a woozy, swerving Velvets-style guitar lick, detached post-punk singing and a seductive bass line, “Blank Canvas” will instantly hook you and make you hit the repeat button. Promising as hell, welcome to the world, Cola—we look forward to hearing what you do next.
