April Rain

3AM Eternal: Oran “Juice” Jones “The Rain” (1986)

A decade ago, rapper R. Kelly gained notoriety for a hilarious tale of romance gone awry with his bizarre “Trapped In The Closet” saga, as if there’d never been such a funny song before. Some of us, though, remembered to two decades prior, and the sole hit by Oran “Juice” Jones, entitled “The Rain.” It’s the tale of a guy who has tired of his trifling, cheating woman, and is breaking up with her via song. It’s the song’s final two minutes, though, that really make it hilarious–not to mention the video, which is, for lack of a better term, a hoot.

Of course, when you debut with such a unique song, it’s rare to top it, and Jones didn’t. Still, “The Rain” is one helluva great number, one that’s only gotten funnier with age. Enjoy!
