3AM Eternal: The Beach Boys “Their Hearts Were Full of Spring” (1966)

One of Brian’s favorite songs growing up was this cover of Bobby Troup‘s classic song, made famous by The Four Freshmen. It was a live favorite, though it was never officially recorded in the studio, although in recent years live versions and rehearsal versions have appeared. The melody was also used for “A Young Man Is Gone,” which was a tribute to teen idol James Dean.

But here they are, live, in their striped shirts, performing it live on TV, with a rare Brian appearance.
