In an online chat with Kristin Hersh, someone asked about this song, taken from the band’s very scary self-titled debut album. Someone asked about what it means. Hersh, as always, was comically evasive to the question. So I chimed In. “I always thought the song was about a homeless underage runaway getting knocked up in a tent in a park by her homeless boyfriend.”
There was a pause.
“Wow.”
Another pause.
“You’re totally not wrong in your interpretation. That’s the first time anyone’s ever said that.”
“I thought it was obvious, truth be told,” I said.
“I gotta watch you,” she said. “You know too much!”
