Song Of The Day: Brett Anderson, “Clowns”

When Suede split up after 2002’s A New Morning, lead singer Brett Anderson’s solo career seemed a certainty; though a 2005 reunion album with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler under the name The Tears didn’t turn into a Suede reunion as expected, he would launch his solo career proper two years later. Edsel Records—who have masterfully documented Suede’s back catalogue—have collected all of Anderson’s superb solo records into one box set, Collected Solo Work. All four of his solo albums have been expanded with b-sides and live recordings, and the set also includes a live album and a comprehensive DVD interview. “Clowns,” a b-side from his debut solo single “Love Is Dead,” is a definite highlight of the box.
