Willie Nelson is one of America’s last true country legends, and his legacy will live on through his children, all of which are accomplished musicians in their own right. All of them work with him on his recordings, and it’s not surprising, then, that when he records, he and his family will often record a song or two on the side. His recently released album, Willie And The Boys: Willie’s Stash Vol. 2, finds him working with his two sons, Lukas and Micah, during the recording sessions for his 2011 album, Heroes. The boys work through a handful of country classics, with an emphasis on the works of Hank Williams, Sr. One of the finest cuts of this superb collection is their take on “Cold, Cold Heart,” with Willie and the boys taking turns on the verses, and it’s reassuring to hear Nelson’s distinctive voice being passed down and living on through his children.
Willie And The Boys: Willie’s Stash Vol. 2 is available now via Sony Legacy.
