For Spiritualized‘s mastermind Jason Pierce, the six years spent making their forthcoming new album And Nothing Hurt practically destroyed him and crushed his spirit. It isn’t surprising, then, that whispers from Pierce have suggested that this will be the band’s final album; whether or not this will be the case remains to be seen. The first taste from the album came last week, with the arrival of “I’m Your Man,” and it’s a stunner; a simple, plaintive ballad seemingly calling out from a lone, mysterious broadcast from outer space. The video reiterates this notion as Pierce, dressed as an astronaut, wanders around a lonely desert landscape. It is easily one of the most beautiful audiovisuals Pierce has ever created, and if indeed this is to be the band’s last album, they’re going out on a high note.
And Nothing Hurt will be released September 9th via Fat Possum.
