After a very brief tenure with British label 4AD, Canadian ambient composer Tim Hecker returns to his longtime label Kranky for what appears to be his most compelling any interesting recording to date. Konoyo was recorded in Japan, with Hecker utilizing the traditional Japanese instrumentation to his compositional style. The first taste of this album, “This Life,” is a gorgeous eight minutes instrumental that masterfully mixes the sounds of East and West in a captivating and beautiful way. Released on September 28th, Konoyo promises to be one of this fall’s highlights.
