Was absolutely shocked to learn that Teenage Fanclub cofounder and bassist Gerard Love would be leaving the band. They recently reissued their Creation Records output on deluxe vinyl editions, and it is sad that such a rewarding long time collaboration with Norman Blake has come to an end. Even sadder is that it was a result of the utterly clichéd “creative differences,” as Love was and it is an integral part of their rewarding sound. One of my favorite Teenage Fanclub songs was “Sparky’s Dream,” taken from their fifth album, Grand Prix. It was a fantastic power pop moment and two decades later still sounds as fresh and vibrant as it did the day it was released. We wish the best of both the band and to Gerard and I hope that maybe one day they will sort out their differences.
