We were really enthralled by My Morning Jacket mastermind Jim James‘s recent solo album Uniform Distortion, and we have been equally fond of the recently released companion album Uniform Clarity, which presents the original LP in its rough and raw state. Our favorite track on the original album “Throwback,” was a fuzzy Southern rock number that recalls James’ day job; what this stripped-down version lacks in rock punch it makes up in potent, raw emotion, a simple performance on acoustic guitar that cuts like a knife.
