Neil Young has never shied away from following his muse and turning his back on something as small and as commercial expectations or audience opinion. In other words, he’ll make difficult music if he damn well feels like it. His live recording of the score to Jim Jarmusch‘s Dead Man is no exception. It’s hard to listen to; rough, angular, rusty, it seems to make no sense without the film, and the inclusion of plenty of dialogue was off-putting to listeners as well.
