Song Of The Day: Luluc, “Black Umbrella”

in 2008, Australian folk duo Luluc quietly released their debut album, Dear Hamlyn, a record of sad, melancholic songs written in the wake of the death of vocalist Zoë Randell‘s father. Unsurprisingly, an album of such raw and cathartic songs resonated with those who heard it, and the duo would soon sign to Sub Pop for their second album. The label would give the debut a very soft release after they signed, but this new release presents it to a wider audience. “Black Umbrella” is especially gorgeous, a stripped down number that slow burns with a Mazzy Star intensity while diving into the otherworldly thanks to some gorgeous pedal steel in the background.
