Desert Sands is the latest signing to Anton Newcombe‘s fantastic a recordings ltd label, and it’s a superb discovery. Helmed by Mark Walker, Desert Sands’ debut EP, The Ascent, features three tracks of heavy and hazy epic space rock that’s both dreamy and aggressive in a way that keeps you attentive. Of the three, my personal favorite is “Head Towards The Light,” a nine-minute journey into deep space in a psych-blues style reminiscent of Jesus & Mary Chain and The Verve. It’s a promising little release that whets the appetite as to what Walker and company will be doing next.
