Song Of The Day: Anna Meredith, “Paramour”

We’ll admit it—we’re late to the Anna Meredith party. No matter, we’re here now, and we’re happy to be here, happy to have gotten to the party at all, thanks to  “Paramour,” the first taste from her forthcoming album, FIBS. It’s an extremely impressive number—a post/prog-rock instrumental that has an undeniably addictive space-rock hook, and the video—which features a model train traveling through a house while the band members perform—is instantly memorable, too. This is intelligent music that is both easy on the ears and challenging to experience. It’s also a superb entrée into her music; if you like this, you’ll find plenty to love on her other record, 2016’s critically acclaimed Varmints, or last year’s score to the film Eighth Grade.
