Melanie Safka will forever be known for her fantastic 1971 hit “Brand New Key,” an otherworldly song of innocence/experience. But she was actually on her way to being an accomplished talent two years prior, and was luck enough to be asked to help kick off the Woodstock festival’s opening night. Ironically, as she began singing a song about the sun, it started to rain. But it didn’t stop her from finishing singing this amazing song.
