Song Of The Day: Jason Lytle, “Iris Leader Evening Footage”

Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle steps out and joins in on an art project called Arthur King Presents, a series of multimedia instillations and experiments in sound. For this album, entitled NYLONANDJUNO, he limits his musical palate to just two instruments: a nylon-stringed guitar and a Juno synth. The resulting album is unlike anything Lytle has made–a straight-up ambient album that’s equally indebted to Tangerine Dream and Brian Eno as well as to his own creative muse. We’re most fond of “Iris Leader Evening Footage,” which reminds us heavily of the Eno work on the soundtrack to Alternative 3, as well as Apollo.
