Last year, when we received a digital advance of the long (and we mean long) awaited sophomore album from A Girl Called Eddy, we instantly knew we were listening to one of the best albums of 2020. This week, the wait is over; Been Around will finally see the light of day. And it’s a stunner, too; while the magic of the self-titled debut is still there, Been Around doesn’t tread familiar sonic ground. Case in point, “Someone’s Gonna Break Your Heart,” the latest single. It’s a positively catchy number that blends Motown with Brill Building sensibilities, replete with handclaps and an additive singalong chorus. Erin Moran has declared the song to be an homage to The Pretenders, and we certainly see her point; Moran’s delivery here is definitely reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde.
