We were definitely saddened to learn of the sudden death of legendary remixer and producer Andrew Weatherall, who died Monday at the age of 56 from a pulmonary embolism. The tributes to him have offered up some of his finest work. Whether it be remixes of Happy Mondays or Saint Etienne, his production work with Primal Scream, or his work as Sabres of Paradise or 2 Lone Swordsmen, the world has shared a lot of fantastic Weatherall-related productions. We are spoiled for choice in terms of songs we could use to pay tribute to the late, great producer.
But I’d like to offer up a more obscure production. In 2007, 2 Lone Swordsmen remixed the dance troupe X-Press 2‘s “Witchi Tai To”. Unlike the club mixes or the head trip mind fucks he became known for, this remix is rather simple. The remix brought vocalist Tim DeLaughter‘s vocals to the front whilst stripping away the original’s techno beat. Instead of turning it into something completely unrecognizable from the original, Weatherall simply allowed the melody to shine through.
RIP Andrew Weatherall. You were a unique talent, and you will be missed.
