Song Of The Day: Psychic TV, “Good Vibrations”

Genesis Breyer P-Orridge

Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, the enigmatic personality behind Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, passed away this weekend at the age of 70. A prolific musician, alongside their two main projects, they had many side projects too numerous and obscure to name. Their sound held no ground in anything other than what possessed their mood at the time. Genesis released hundreds of records; we are spoiled for choice in terms of what song to honor them with.

Thus, our selection might seem peculiar. In 1986, Psychic TV released a surprisingly faithful cover of The Beach Boys‘ classic, “Good Vibrations”. The song’s video only enhances the number’s joy de vivre. In it, Genesis and their bandmates are decked out in bright clothes and ride around Los Angeles in a classic convertible, lip synching and simply enjoying themselves. Watching them have fun is a joy to behold; how could one not recall with fondness such a happy moment in time? Naturally, you can’t.
