Song Of The Day: Pneumatic Tubes, “Village Green Eyes”

Pneumatic Tubes

On first listen to the mysterious Pneumatic Tubes’ debut album Sunfrost, you might be reminded of Mercury Rev. Good reason, too: Jesse Chandler, the mastermind behind the group, happens to be a member. Sunfrost came about at the same time he joined the band, so the inspiration is fresh. We quickly fell in love with this charming, low-key release; Sunfrost wears proudly its soft-rock inspirations. To us, every song’s a winner but we’re most fond of “Village Green Eyes,” a gentle, lush piano ballad. Blending Mercury Rev’s simple storytelling with a Brian Wilson vibe and Band-like arrangement, the song won us over instantly, and we think it will do so for you, too.
