It’s been a while since former Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie graced the world with a solo record. This year he’s marking his return with a handful of releases, the first of which is a gorgeous four-song EP, Mockingbird Love. All four songs shimmer with Guthrie’s deft compositional style, but “In Love and At War” is easily the highlight. Soft and unhurried with a gorgeous piano melody, it’s reminiscent of Guthrie’s late mentor and collaborator, Harold Budd. Mockingbird Love arrived with news of Guthrie’s next solo album, Pearldiving, set for release later this year.
