Song Of The Week: Tsunami, “Old City”

DC legends Tsunami are about to undergo a reissue campaign, and the first wave of releases happens to contain our favorite Tsunami song. This offering is the band’s final single, “Poodle,” a fine song about poodles running in the Iditarod. It’s the flip side, however, that we love. “Old City” is an ode about crimes in Philadelphia. Breaking & Entering, assault, armed robbery, bicycle theft—“was it all just for fun,” asks Jenny Toomey. But any song that contains the line “Who broke the glass at the old Khyber Pass? There was barely a scratch, don’t you know bricks just bounce off plexiglass?” Is ace in our book. Here’s to that reissue campaign and revisiting songs that we loved thirty years ago.
