3AM Eternal: The Field Mice, “September’s Not So Far Away” (1991)

What would prove to be the penultimate single by The Field Mice was an upbeat number, a hopeful message of longing coming from the mind of Bobby Wratten, a master of capturing emotion in a pop song. Dig that great Byrds-like guitar lick, too. A great song that shows that The Field Mice were at the top of their game, even as the band was slowly falling apart.
