Austin, Texas has produced a ton of interesting bands, and one of the more unique groups to form in the 1990s was Drums & Tuba, a trio consisting of a guitar player and, well, drums and tuba. But this wasn’t your great-grandfather’s Sousa instrument; modified with all sorts of electronic effects and sonic treatments. Towards their end, they would make a bit of a splash in the “jam band” scene, thanks in part to their association with Ani DiFranco, via her label Righteous Babe. “Magnum Opie” stems from their final release, the extended play record, Battles Ole. This song is a ten minute electronic groove; sit back and enjoy the chill.
