It always kind of sucks when a great band splits up, and by the time you read this, that’s exactly what Portland-based alt.country band Richmond Fontaine have done. Shame, too; they were a hard-working and prolific group, fronted by the talented Willy Vlautin. They made superior Southwestern-tinged rock, and their seventh album, 2007’s Thirteen Cities was a particular highlight. It’s recently been expanded to a double album, and adds seven bonus tracks, session recordings that were originally released on the EP $87 And A Guilty Conscience That Gets Worse The Longer I Go, where “The Water Wars” originally appeared.
Thirteen Cities: Complete Sessions is available now via Decor Records.
