Though the name Larry Steinbachek might not familiar to you, his music probably isn’t; as one-third of the group Bronski Beat, he added the keyboard rhythms that propelled the amazing vocal prowess of frontman Jimmy Somerville. We were saddened to learn of his passing, which allows us the opportunity to revisit this wonderful hit–one that was an international hit, in spite of its rather blatant message (unheard of even in the open-minded Eighties), and one that was played regularly on the local pop radio station. Though he might not have had a high-profile career, he did spend his life working in music, a source of happiness for him. He was living in Amsterdam where he succumbed to cancer at age 56. RIP.
